‘I Hope John Redcorn Has Found Peace’ Say the ‘King of the Hill’ Superfans Who Conducted Jonathan Joss’ Final Interview

On Sunday, June 1st, actor This followed his difficult final months — a time during which his home burned to the ground along with his three dogs and his financial issues continued to mount. The day before he died, however, the superfan hosts of BWAAA! A King of the Hill Podcast tried to show Joss as much love and appreciation as they could during what would end up being his final interview.
“I wanted him to understand what an influence he had on all the people in that room,” says host Mike Hamilton, who conducted Saturday’s interview in front of a crowd of 25 to 30 people at the ATX TV Festival in Austin. “It helped that it was a pot lounge that we were interviewing him in. Everybody was super laid-back, and it was a good crowd.”
“It was a concerned crowd, too,” notes Hamilton’s co-host, who goes by Dale Gribble’s alter-ego, Rusty Shackleford. “I kind of froze up during the interview because you could see this human being actively struggling. Still, we wanted to give the guy a chance to speak for himself in a way he may not otherwise get to. Some of the things he was talking about were eerie. a lot of tense moments.”
Don't Miss
During the interview, Joss bounced from subject to subject, talking about his house fire and dogs, his sexuality, his ex-wife and his open use of drugs and alcohol. Hamilton, who is four years sober, briefly brought up his sobriety during the interview, but Joss jokingly called him a quitter. “He’s a human just like the rest of us. He’s got his demons just like we all do,” Hamilton says.
The day before their interview, Joss had an outburst at the King of the Hill at the ATX festival, during which he began talking about not having money, the ing of his co-star Johnny Hardwick and some of his recent tragedies. “Nobody really knew what was happening, and as soon as he got up there, he started breaking down,” says Hamilton. “It was very easy for him to derail himself, and he was definitely troubled. Everybody there was very uncomfortable with it.”
Hamilton adds that, at the time, they couldn’t figure out what Joss was angry about. “I just wish he could have been easier on himself. After he ed, we messaged his husband, who is a really nice guy. We said, ‘I hope John Redcorn has found peace.’ It’s just super sad that all of the turmoil ends like this.”
